i. The Nobel prize for physics:
The prize for the year 190I was awarded lo:
RONTGEN, WILHELM CONRAD, professor of physics at
the University of Munich, born 1845, died 10th
February, 1923: In recognition of “the exceptional
services vendeved by him in the discovery of the
special rays which have been called after him.’
The prize for the year 1902 was divided equally between :
LLorENTZ, HENDRIK ANTOON, professor of physics at
the University of Léyden, born 1853, died sth
February, 1928; and
ZEMAN, PIETER, professor of physics at the Uni-
versity of Amsterdam, born 1865. In recognition
of “the special services vendeved by them in their
investigations vegavding the influence of wmagne-
tism upon the phenomena of radiation.”
The prize for the year 1903 was awarded with one half to:
BrcQUEREL, HENRI ANTOINE, professor of physics at
the cole Polytechnique in Paris, born 1852,
died 25th August, 1908. In recognition of “the
special services rendered by him in the discovery
of spontaneous radioactivity.”
The other half was divided equally between:
Curie, PIERRE, professor of physics at the Iicole
municipale de physique et de chimie industrielles
in Paris, born 1859, died 19th April, 1906; and
his wife:
