1907; "in recognition of the great services rendered
by him in his investigation and isolation of the
element fluorine, as well as by his introduction to
the sevvice of science of the electric furnace called
after him.”
The prize for the year 1907 was awarded to:
BucHNER, EDUARD, professor of chemistry at the
Agricultural College in Berlin, born 1860, died
12th August, 1917; “in recognition of his investi-
gations in biological chemistvy and his discovery of
cell-less fermentation.”
The prize for the year 1908 was awarded io:
RUTHERFORD, ERNEST, professor of physics at the
Victoria University, Manchester, born 1871,
died 19th October, 1937; “for his investigations
into the disintegration of elements, and the chem-
istry of vadio-active substances.”
The prize for the year 1909 was awarded to:
OstwaLD, WILHELM, professor emeritus of physical
chemistry at the University of Leipzig, born
1853, died 3rd April, 1932; “in recognition of
his works on catalysis, as well as for his investi-
gations info the fundamental principles governing
chemical equilibrium and rates of reaction.”
The prize for the year 1910 was awavded to:
WarracH Otto, professor of chemistry at the Uni-
versity of Gottingen, born 1847, died 18th
March 1931; “in recognition ot the sevvices ven-
dered by him to ovgawic chemistry and the chewmi-
cal industry, through his pioneer work in the field
of alicyclic compounds.”
