Um die internationale Bedeutung und Bekanntheit des Kasseler Hofes zu 
steigern, nahm Landgraf Moritz Familienfeste zum Anlass, aufwendige 
mittelalterliche Ritterspiele und Wettkämpfe zu veranstalten. Anlässlich 
der Taufe seiner ersten Tochter Elisabeth, deren Patin die englische 
Königin war, ließ Moritz Ritterspiele organisieren, die von Wilhelm Dilich 
ausführlich beschrieben und reich illustriert wurden. Dieser protokol 
larische Bericht sollte den Ruhm Kassels in die Welt tragen.
