NicoLLE, CHARLES, professor, director of the Pasteur
Institute, Tunis, born 1866, died 28th February,
1936; “for his work on typhus exanthematicus.”
The prize jor the year 1929 was divided equally between :
E1jgMAN, CHRISTIAAN, formerly professor of hygiene
and forensic medicine at the University of Ut-
recht, born 1858, died 5th November, 1930; “for
the discovery of the awtimeuritic vitamins’; and
Hopkins, Sir FREDERICK GOWLAND, professor of
bio-chemistry at the University of Cambridge,
born 1861; “for the discovery of the growth-pro-
moting vitamins.”

LANDSTEINER, KARL, professor of pathology and
bacteriology at the Rockefeller Institute for
Medical Research, New York, born in Vienna
1868; "for his discovery of the human blood groups.”
The prize for the vear 1931 was awarded to:
WaRrBURG, Orto H., dr., professor of bio-chemistry
at the Kaiser-Wilhelms-Institute for Biology,
Berlin-Dahlem, born 1883; “for his discovery of
the chavacteyr and wmode of action of the vespiva-
tory ferment.”
